December Reading at 27 Club Asheville
On December 19th, David Allen Voyles read several excerpts from The Thirteenth Day of Christmas and Other Tales of Yuletide Horror at 27 Club Asheville. Sharing ghost stories at Christmas is a Victorian tradition that Voyles is hoping to see revived. Those in attendance heard of traditional ghosts like the mysterious apparition in “Christmas Eve in the Graveyard,” as well as learning of an enigmatic and sometimes ominous Old World Santa-figure in ‘The Toymaker.” Voyles broke from the dark horror of the previous readings by ending with his humorous story, “Santa and the Haunted House.”
Tales from the Hearse
Imagine riding in the back of a 1972 Cadillac hearse while author David Allen Voyles tells you frightening ghost stories as you drive slowly through a haunted graveyard? Guests who booked with him when he hosted Dark Ride Tours did just that.
And now you, too, can experience that thrill by visiting Tales from the Hearse on the Gestalt Media YouTube channel. But beware! You just might experience a ghost or two along the way.

“Hansel and Gretel, the True Story” Maybe the children of this famous folk tale weren’t as innocent as we’ve always been led to believe.

SEASON TWO: Witch-Works
Witch-Works consists of thirteen episodes and is a unique collaboration between David Allen Voyles and Mombi Yuleman that was inspired by the latter’s Halloween-themed album also entitled Witch-Works.
Children die in Maria Bay in disproportionate numbers. They always have.
If anyone suspected Harold O’Bannon and the Black Cat Toy Factory, aka the Witch-Works, they kept it to themselves.
In 1957 the factory was destroyed in a fire. The ruins loom over the farm where Daniel Thompson grew up, unaware of the impact living under its shadow would continue to have on him and the small coastal town of Maria Bay.
When Daniel hears of his father’s death and returns to the home he fled years before, he finds that he is intimately involved in O’Bannon’s dark designs which have spanned generations of mystery and horror.
Some knowledge is best left unknown.
SEASON THREE: Wraiths of the Appalachian
Like Season Two, this season consists of thirteen episodes written by David Allen Voyles that were inspired by an idea and the music of Mombi Yuleman. Mombi Yuleman created the soundtrack for this season by including music from his album Wraiths of the Appalachian along with additional ambient sound.
Dissatisfied with his life, Eddie Bowen throws a sleeping bag and a carrier loaded only with a change of clothes and meager supplies into his car and drives aimlessly out of town without the slightest hint of a plan about where he is going. When a static-filled voice addresses him directly through his radio, Eddie surprises himself by following his invisible companion’s directions, which take him on a terrifying journey through the Appalachian mountain region.
His travels often include chats with mysterious visitors who appear at his campfire each night with new stories suggested from the old tales of mountain folklore, such as the eerie Brown Mountain lights in North Carolina and the moon-eyed people of Tennessee. Eddie also has conversations with people in West Virginia and Maryland who tell him of more recent frightening stories that have surfaced of the mischievous Kentucky goblins and an extra-terrestrial monster that terrorized several youngsters in Flatwoods, West Virginia. As you might well imagine, Eddie’s exposure to these Appalachian terrors are not limited to the fireside tales of strangers; he has his own first-hand experiences with these creatures, cryptids, and creepy spirits, or at least with beings connected to the stories.
You should also know that Eddie has a VERY interesting companion who joins him early in his journey. No spoilers; you’ll have to listen to find out.
DARK HOLIDAYS: A mini-season with three episodes of dark Yuletide tales
“Up on the Rooftop” A self-centered little girl gets a special visit from…wait…that doesn’t sound like Santa!
Two Short Holiday Tales: A little girl learns that you should be careful what you wish for in “A Christmas Wish” and a brother keeps his Christmas promise to his two old spinster sisters in a very traditional ghost story, “A Promise Kept.”
“Santa and the Haunted House” Well, with all of the houses Santa visits on Christmas Eve, you know some of them have to be haunted, right?
